The Mariinsky label’s latest release is Arturo Gama’s production of the opera Attila. The label’s twentieth disc marks two centuries of Giuseppe Verdi, an anniversary that is being widely celebrated in the music world this year. This release is the first opera production in DVD and Blu-Ray formats released by the label (a recording of George Balanchine’s ballet Jewels has already been released in these formats).

The new disc is a recording of one of the most dazzling premieres of recent seasons – the 2010 production of Attila at the historic Mariinsky Theatre (Stage Director Arturo Gama, Production Designer Frank Philipp Schlössmann and Costume Designers Frank Philipp Schlössmann and Hanne Loosen). The lead role is performed by acclaimed bass singer Ildar Abdrazakov, who has already won international acclaim for his portrayal of this role. “[Abdrazakov’s] sensational bass has just about everything: imposing sound, beautiful legato, oodles of finesse” (The Independent).

The role of the fearless Roman Odabella is performed by leading Mariinsky Theatre soloist Anna Markarova and the roles of Ezio and Foresto by Vladislav Sulimsky and Sergei Skorokhodov.

As a bonus feature to the full three-act recording of the opera, the release also includes a photo gallery of the most spectacular scenes and thrilling characters in the opera.

The disc is available via the Mariinsky label’s website as well as the music boutiques in the foyers of the Mariinsky Theatre, Mariinsky-II and the Concert Hall.
