Vasily Gerello’s birthday

Vasily Gerello, a leading Mariinsky Theatre soloist and People’s Artist of Russia, turned fifty years of age on 13 March 2013.

Today is the fiftieth birthday of Vasily Gerello, one of the most acclaimed baritones of the international opera scene. The singer’s international career took off at the Mariinsky Theatre, where he joined the opera company while still a third-year student at the Conservatoire. Vasily Gerello was immediately offered such lead roles as Onegin, Rodrigo (Verdi’s Don Carlo) and Valentin (Gounod’s Faust), the theatre quickly becoming his second home. Today the singer is a welcome guest at major opera houses and concert halls throughout the world though, as before, he prefers performing for Russian audiences at his beloved Mariinsky Theatre.
