On 12 October the Mariinsky Theatre’s media broadcasting department will be transmitting a solo recital by organist Tomasz Adam Nowak from the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre. The Polish organist is a professor of the organ and organ improvisation class at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold and the Principal Organist at the St Lamberti Kirche in Münster (Germany), and his interests as a performer are generally centred around the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and Max Reger; a maestro of organ improvisation, he will be presenting the musical excursion Passacaglias and Chaconnes from Five Centuries. The programme for the concert includes examples of these genres by Johann Sebastian Bach, Louis Couperin, Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer, Henry Purcell, Max Reger and Nowak himself. On 14 October the Mariinsky Theatre website will be broadcasting the concert Valery Gergiev Presents Young Musicians from Yugra, the concluding part of the project The Year of the Mariinsky Theatre in Yugra. The programme for the year was incredibly intense. Key events have included a concert featuring the Symphony Orchestra and soloists of the Opera and Ballet Companies under the baton of Valery Gergiev at the Yugra Classic Concert and Theatre Centre in Khanty-Mansiysk in February as well as Valery Gergiev’s artistic school, for which talented young performers and musicians were selected and where they attended master-classes given by Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Company soloists and members of the Orchestra throughout the year. In October the best students at the school came to train at the Mariinsky Theatre and will be performing at a concert with the Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev. The concert will also feature Denis Matsuev, who will be performing the solo in Johannes Brahms’ First Piano Concerto. The broadcasts begin at 19:00 (Moscow Time): http://mariinsky.tv and http://mariinsky.fm
