Das Rheingold is the first opera in the tetralogy Der Ring des Nibelungen – the prologue in which the threads of destiny of the gods of Asgard, people and Nibelungs are bound together in a tight knot. The Rhine maidens, playful mermaids, guard a horde of gold. Whoever forges a ring from it will gain power over the Earth, though must also sacrifice the ability to love. Having seized the fateful ring from Alberich the Nibelung who made it, the supreme god Wotan sets into motion a curse that none who possess the ring can escape, be they a god, a giant or a man. With his vivid personality, “Andrei Zorin is a fine example of stunning acting technique and intoxicating vocal skills, and when the text is pronounced distinctly each intonation is natural.” (Kultura)
Andrei Zorin’s repertoire already includes several characters from legends, among them Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte), the Devil (The Brothers Karamazov), the Devil (Christmas Eve) and Kashchei the Immortal (Kashchei the Immortal). The role of Siegfried’s foster father, the crafty dwarf Mime, marks a new step in the soloist’s stage career.
