![]() | The performance by the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra with Valery Gergiev in Eindhoven coincided with celebrations to mark twenty years of the Muziekgebouw concert hall and proved to be a key anniversary event at this music venue in the major North Brabant town. The concert programme included Romeo and Juliet (Tchaikovsky’s fantasy overture and highlights of the music for the ballet by Prokofiev), the suite of music for Stravinsky’s ballet The Firebird and Prokofiev’s First Violin Concerto in which the solo was performed by young Slovenian violinist Lana Trotovšek. The same orchestral works as well as Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto featuring soloist Yeol Eum Son, recipient of the 2nd prize at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition, were performed by the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra together with maestro Gergiev on 3 September at the anniversary sixtieth Ljubljana Festival. Maestro Gergiev and his orchestra have been regular visitors to the Ljubljana Festival since 2003. |
