Daniil Trifonov on the Mariinsky label

Daniil Trifonov has become the second pianist to feature on the Mariinsky label, which has already produced two discs featuring recordings by Denis Matsuev.

Daniil Trifonov’s disc features a recording of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto together with the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev in addition to solo works by Tchaikovsky and Chopin and Liszt’s versions of pieces by Schubert and Schumann.
Acclaimed as the finest performer at the XIV Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow at which he took the Grand Prix, awarded by the jury headed by Valery Gergiev, 1^st prize, Gold Medal, Audience Award and Prize for the Best Performance of a Concerto with a Chamber Orchestra, throughout the year following the competition Daniil Trifonov has performed with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra and maestro Gergiev on numerous occasions in St Petersburg (Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre), New York (Carnegie Hall), Moscow (Great Hall of the Conservatoire), Astrakhan, Baden-Baden, Istanbul and Kaunas. The pianist also made his debut under Valery Gergiev with the London Symphony Orchestra in September 2011 and the Wiener Philharmoniker in January 2012.
The release of this disc marks the continuation of Valery Gergiev’s programme to promote the prize-winners of the Tchaikovsky Competition, one of the world’s most important music forums.

27 August saw the release of the disc in SACD format, and it will also be available on iTunes (exact dates of the release will depend on your region). Discs may be ordered on the official website of the Mariinsky Theatre’s label. The disc comes with a twenty-four page booklet including annotations in Russian, English, German and French.
