Maxim Aksenov a GQ nominee

GQ magazine has nominated Mariinsky Opera Company soloist Maxim Aksenov for the title Man of the Year in the category “Discovery of the Year.”

Maxim Aksenov

This nomination is an undoubted sign of Maxim Aksenov’s onstage success. At the Mariinsky Theatre, this vibrant and energetic performer with his strong spinto tenor voice has brought to life the dramatic characters of the Pretender in Musorgsky’s Boris Godunov and Herman in Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades. Aksenov also feels at ease performing such lyrical roles as Lensky in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin and Alfredo in Verdi’s La traviata.

The tenth GQ prize-giving ceremony will take place at the State Theatre of Nations in Moscow on 21 September. Voting has already begun. Readers of the magazine must choose the winner from the various candidates. The voting form was published in the June issue of GQ magazine and on the official site: www.gq.ru

The GQ Men of the Year award is presented on an annual basis in twelve countries including Russia, the USA, Great Britain and Germany. As one of the most important social highlights of the year, the prize-giving ceremony has made a name for itself as a colourful and impressive event. Over the years, the most famous prize-winners have included Sir Elton John, Heidi Klum, Tony Blair, Sir Paul McCartney, Orlando Bloom, David Beckham and Edward Norton.
