The first tour by the Mariinsky Theatre Chorus to Denmark will see the participation of the Odense Symfoniorkester under the baton of its Principal Conductor Alexander Vedernikov. The Danish tour opens in Odense on 1 March at the Concert Hall of the Carl Nielsen Museum, which is dedicated to the life of the outstanding Danish composer. This small town is famous for being the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, the internationally renowned author of fairy tales. The museum’s hall seats an audience of one thousand two hundred and twelve and has been praised for its wonderful acoustics as well as its immense organ with forty-six registers made by Marcussen & Søn. On 2 March the Mariinsky Theatre Chorus will be appearing in Copenhagen at the Concert Hall of the Conservatoire. The programmes for both evenings feature works by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Sergei Taneyev. Soloists appearing are to include the Belarusian mezzo-soprano Oxana Volkova and the renowned baritone Sergei Leiferkus, People’s Artist of the RSFSR. The Odense Symfoniorkester was formally established in 1946, although the ensemble’s history dates back to the early 19th century. Today this international orchestra consists of seventy-three musicians representing seventeen countries. Each year the orchestra performs about one hundred different programmes including concerts of symphony music and operas in addition to recordings and tours.
