A concert in Kaunas

Today, 13 January, the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra under Valery Gergiev will be performing in Kaunas, Lithuania.
 


 

The Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra and Valery Gergiev will be giving one concert in Kaunas at the Žalgiris arena, the largest concert and sports complex in the Baltic region, its concert venue having a seating capacity of eleven thousand.

The opera and symphony music gala concert programme includes arias from operas by Alexander Borodin, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Gioachino Rossini, Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini, the overture from Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No 1 featuring soloist Daniil Trifonov, recipient of the Grand Prix at the most recent Tchaikovsky Competition. The young pianist has already performed with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra in the USA, Great Britain, Germany and Russia.
The opera programme for the concert will see performances by lead Mariinsky Opera Company soloists Viktoria Yastrebova, Yevgeny Akimov and Mikhail Petrenko.
