Mariinsky label DVD named “Choc de l’année”

Leading French music magazine Classica has named Valery Gergiev “Artiste de l’année” while a Mariinsky label DVD has received the “Choc de l’année” award.

On 21 November in Paris, Classica magazine held its grand awards ceremony for 2011 prize-winners, among them Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky label. Valery Gergiev won the French magazine’s most prestigious prize as “Artiste de l’année” while the Mariinsky label’s release of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Symphonies in DVD / Blu-Ray format was named “Choc de l’année.”

The disc of Tchaikovsky’s Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Symphonies, released by the Mariinsky label in October 2011, is one of maestro Valery Gergiev’s most stunning interpretations of this music. The recording was produced at the Salle Pleyel in Paris in December 2010. This disc has received international acclaim, and British magazine International Record Review named it “Outstanding Recording.”

France’s Classica magazine had previously named the label’s first recording – Dmitry Shostakovich’s opera The Nose – “Choc de l’année”.
