Edem Umerov makes his debut in Tosca

On 3 November Edem Umerov will be performing the role of Baron Scarpia in Giacomo Puccini’s opera Tosca for the first time.

Edem Umerov stands apart thanks to his vivid stage presence and the incredibly soft timbre of his voice. The singer has been particularly successful in roles depicting tragic characters and evildoers in which the performer has to express the power of passions that torture the soul and the character’s endless despair or the sudden awareness of some catastrophe that has unfolded. As Macbeth Edem Umerov “expressed the gloomy depths of the evil nature of the Scottish thane extremely convincingly” and in the role of Rigoletto he “astounded the audience as the deceived jester.”

Umerov’s repertoire also includes the role of the Mandarin in Giacomo Puccini’s opera Turandot. In his debut performance in Tosca, the singer will be appearing as Baron Scarpia, the tyrannical and perfidious chief of police in Rome who deceives Floria Tosca and has her lover Mario Cavaradossi executed.
