Valery Gergiev to introduce winners of the Tchaikovsky Competition in Germany

The Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra under Valery Gergiev is continuing its marathon autumn tour. The concert programmes in Baden-Baden from 28 to 30 October will feature prize-winners of the XIV Tchaikovsky Competition.

Following its triumphant performances at the most prestigious concert venues in the USA and Canada and a one-day visit to Astrakhan, the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra is departing for Europe, where it will continue the tour series Valery Gergiev Conducts Tchaikovsky. Over three evenings at the Festspielhaus in Baden-Baden maestro Gergiev will conduct performances of all six of the composer’s symphonies. The concerts will feature performances by young prize-winners of the Tchaikovsky Competition: on 28 October Daniil Trifonov will perform Piano Concerto No 1, and on 29 October Narek Hakhnazaryan will perform Variations on a Rococo Theme for cello and orchestra. At the concert on 30 October which closes the tour to Baden-Baden, Sergei Dogadin will perform Violin Concerto in D Major.

The Mariinsky Theatre has a particularly close relationship with the Festspielhaus. The Mariinsky Theatre comes to this major European theatre complex of marble and glass that is home to an opera house and a concert hall with its stunning acoustics several times a year with programmes of symphony music, operas and ballets. For the young prize-winners, performing at the Festspielhaus will mark yet another important step in their emerging and promising recital careers.
