
Vladimir Petrov studied at St Petersburg’s Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia, majoring in art education, and at the St Petersburg State University of Film and Television, majoring in feature film directing.
From 2006 to 2008 he worked at the Lenfilm Studio in the Department of Scenic and Technical Constructions as a set designer. Has taken part in creating sets and props for Aleksey German Jr’s Paper Soldier, Aleksey Balabanov’s Morphine and Sergei Ovcharov’s The Garden (all released in 2008), as well as for various television series and music videos.
From 2008 to 2009 he was a set designer for the permanent exhibition at the Khanty-Mansiysk Museum of Geology, Oil and Gas.
Worked as a production designer at RWS (Russian World Studios) during 2011–2012.
Since 2015 Vladimir Petrov has been a video designer with the Mariinsky Theatre, where he took part in the creation of Pioneer Suite to music by Shostakovich (choreography by Alexander Sergeev; 2020) and of the updated Concert Hall version of A Life for the Tsar (2025).
