Anton Kovalenko   Stage Director

Anton Kovalenko was born in Kiev to an acting family. From 1991–96 he studied at the acting faculty of the Leningrad Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinema (workshop of V. V. Petrov). After graduating from the Institute, for three years he worked at the Actor´s Refuge Theatre, and subsequently completed a season with the Theatre on Liteiny. In parallel, he worked on various independent projects as both actor and producer; he has also worked in eurhythmics and non-formal theatre, collaborating with St Petersburg´s Iguan Dance Theatre. He has worked with the Lenfilm Cinema School. From 2000–05 he trained at the staging faculty of the Chekhov MKhAT Studio School (workshop of Kama Ginkas). Since graduating from the studio school, he has staged productions of Five – Twenty-Five (Moscow´s Teatr.doc), The Demob Train (Niz­hevartovsk Drama Theatre), Underground God (V. S. Meierhold Centre, Moscow), Funny Affected Creatures (Youth Theatre in Rostov-on-Don), Othello (Barnaul Drama Theatre), The Lonely West (Saratov Drama Theatre), Beauty Queen (Lensoviet Theatre, St Petersburg), Pillow Man (Actor´s Refuge Theatre, St Petersburg), Diary of a Madman (Saratov Drama Theatre), Diary of a Madman (Russian Theatre, Tallinn).
