Leonard Fu


Violin

Leonard Fu was born in Kiel, Germany, in 1997. At the age of four he started learning the piano, and aged seven he began to play the violin. In 2005 he was one of the youngest attendees for Early Studies at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover. There he studied with Professor Ina Kertscher and Professor Lara Lev. Currently, Leonard is a student of Professor Tanja Becker-Bender at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg.

Leonard has been a prize-winner at numerous competitions, both national and international. In 2009 he won 2nd prize at the XVI International Andrea Postacchini Violin Competition in Fermo, Italy, and in 2013 he won 1st prize at the Jugend Musiziert competition in Erlangen, Germany. In 2012 he was invited to Beijing to the XVI International Yehudi Menuhin Violin Competition for young violinists amongst twenty other finalists and in 2013 he was winner of the 6th prize and two special prizes at the XXXII International Violin Competition Premio Rodolfo Lipizer in Gorizia, Italy. Leonard was the winner of the TONALi14 and two special prizes (audience award and special prize for the best music performance) in September 2014 in Hamburg, Germany. With the TONALi14 prize came the loan of a Nicolò Gagliano from Florian Leonhard Fine Violins as well as several concerts, such as at the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival and at the Altmark Festspiele.

Leonard has given concerts in Spain, Italy, Austria, Germany and Russia. He has played with the Hamburger Symphoniker and with the Deutsche Kammerphilarmonie Bremen under the baton of Alexander Shelley.
