Semyon Salomatnikov was born in Moscow in 2007. He studied at the Central Music School of the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (with Leonid Guryev and later Ivan Maloshtanov) and at the Goldenweiser Children’s Music School in Moscow (with Roman Ivanov). Since 2023 the artist has been a student at the Secondary Special Music School of the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory (class of Timur Martynov). He has participated in masterclasses given by Sergei Nakariakov, Otto Sauter, Matthias Höfs, Immanuel Richter and Andrea Tofanelli.
Has held scholarships from the Yuri Rozum International Charitable Foundation, the Vladimir Spivakov International Charity Foundation and the New Names and Art Line foundations.
Prize-winner of the Moscow International Festival-Competition Open Europe – Open Planet (2019), the International Youth Competition of Classical Solo Performance Nota bene! (St Petersburg, 2020), the International Festival-Competition Voronezh Wind Assemblies named after V.M. Khalilov (2020), the International Festival-Competition of Musical and Artistic Creativity Children’s Holiday (St Petersburg, 2020), the Ictus International Trumpet Competition (Miami, 2020), the Lanote Jazz International Online Competition (2020), the International Festival-Competition Children’s Triumph of Jazz (Moscow, 2021), the International Online Competition for Jazz Performers International Jazz Bridge (2021), the International Youth Music Competition named after M.P. Musorgsky (St Petersburg, 2022) and the International Music Competition dedicated to Igor Stravinsky (St Petersburg, 2023). Finalist of the International Television Competition for Young Musicians The Nutcracker (Moscow, 2021). At the XVII International Tchaikovsky Competition (Moscow – St Petersburg, 2023) he was awarded 1st prize and a Gold Medal.
Has worked as a soloist with the Song and Dance Ensemble under Alexei Gubarev (Moscow).
Since 2024 Semyon Salomatnikov has been a member of the Mariinsky Orchestra.
He has appeared at the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the Moscow International Performing Arts Centre, the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall (Moscow) and other venues. Has played with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, the Presidential Orchestra (Moscow), the Bryansk and Vladimir governor’s symphony orchestras, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra The Seasons, the Voce Anima Orchestra (Moscow), the Igor Lerman Chamber Orchestra (Naberezhnye Chelny) and the Cantilena Chamber Orchestra (Moscow) among others. He has performed with such conductors as Philippe Entremont, Mikhail Shekhtman, Andrei Istomin, Artyom Markin and Ivan Pokrovsky.
