Alexander Rubinov was born in Leningrad. Graduated as a pianist from the Secondary Special Music School of the Leningrad Conservatory (class of Valentina Kunde and Aleksey Orlovetsky), then the conservatory itself before completing post-graduate studies and a traineeship under Professor Grigory Sokolov. In chamber music and accompaniment classes he studied in the classes of Professors Tamara Fidler and Sofia Vakman.
He teaches piano at the Department of Music of the Vaganova Ballet Academy. Works as a coach and accompanist with participants of the Atkins Young Artists Program Fellowship at the Mariinsky Theatre, and appears as a piano accompanist with Mariinsky Opera singers. Soloist of the state concert agency St Petersburg Concert. Directs several music projects of the St Petersburg Committee for Culture.
Tours as a soloist, accompanist and participant in chamber ensembles throughout Russia and abroad, and collaborates with lead soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre, the Mikhailovsky Theatre, the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia and the Helikon Opera.
Has taken part in the Freiburg Festival and the Utrecht Music Festival and has appeared in Beijing, Gothenburg and Oslo. Has given concerts in cities in Switzerland, Germany, Finland, Italy and the USA.
