Thilo Reuther


Lighting Designer
Thilo Reuther was born 1964 in Jülich. He concluded his masters degree in Stage Design 1985-1999 at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin and subsequently worked with Achim Freyer and with Karl-Ernst Herrmann at the Burgtheater in Vienna. In 1994 he founded KOOP Theater Berlin together with Johannes Grebert. Since then he has worked freelance for stage and costume designs and as a lighting and video designer for opera, theatre and dance. Thilo Reuther regularly works with such theatre directors as Sebastian Baumgartner, Jan Jochymski, Thomas Krupa and Hermann Schmidt-Rahmer as well as the choreographers Sasha Waltz and Anna Huber. In Berlin, Thilo Reuther holds lectureships for stage and lighting design at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst Ernst Busch and the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weissßensee. His stage design for The Master and Margarita directed by Sebastian Baumgarten at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus was awarded the German national theatre prize in 2008. With Sasha Waltz he has collaborated on her choreography for the operas Dido and Aeneas, Medea and Passion.
