Lucy Carter


Lighting Designer
Born in King’s Lynn on the eastern coast of Great Britain, Lucy studied dance and drama at the Roehampton Institute, the University of Surrey, before taking an Advanced Diploma in Lighting Design at the Central School of Speech and Drama.

Her recent dance credits include Raven Girl (Royal Ballet), Atomos (Wayne McGregor with Random Dance), Borderlands (San Francisco Ballet), L’Anatomie de la sensation (Ballet of the Opéra de Paris), FAR (Wayne McGregor with Random Dance) and Live Fire Exercise (Royal Ballet), Yantra (Stuttgart Ballett), Outlier (New York City Ballet), The Most Incredible Thing (Sadler’s Wells), Still Life (Scottish Ballet) and Invitus Invitam and Metamorphosis: Titian 2012 (Royal Ballet). Previous work in ballet includes McGregor’s Chroma, Limen, Infra, Dyad 1909, Dyad 1929, Qualia, Genus, Skindex, Renature, Entity, Amu, Digit01, Ataxia, Nemesis, Erazor, 2 Human and Nautilus, while in opera she has worked on productions of Ludd and Isis, Parthenogenesis, Dido and Aeneas and Acis and Galatea (Royal Opera, Royal Ballet), Maria Stuarda and The Adventures of Mr Brouček (Opera North) and Lohengrin (Welsh National Opera and Poland’s Opera Narodowa) and in drama theatre she has designed for Emil and the Detectives and Blurred Lines (National Theatre), Wastwater (Royal Court), The Crucible (Abbey, Dublin), Othello (Sheffield’s Crucible) and Saturday Night and Sunday Morning (Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester).
Recipient of a Knight of Illumination award for Chroma (2008).
