The son and grandson of a painter, Pierre Gaillardot has a very innovative approach to lighting architecture and stage productions. In 1990, with the Théâtre du Châtelet, Pierre Gaillardot began working as a designer on such productions as Pelléas et Mélisande (Debussy, staged by Peter Stein) and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (Wagner, staged by Claude Régy). In 1992 he left the Chвtelet and now regularly works with Dominique Bruguiere, for example on Le nozze di Figaro (Mozart) for a mise-en-scene by Robert Carsen at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées, in Tel Aviv and Barcelona. He has also collaborated with Alain Ollivier. He has been an assistant to Marie-Christine Soma on projects including Letters to a Young Poet (Rilke, staged by Nils Arestrup) and again in opera during the Ambronay Festival on Athalia (Händel, staged by François Rancillac).
He is frequently engaged as a lighting conceptualist for such stage directors and choreographers as Patrice Bigel, Valиre Novarina, Jacques Robotier, Louis de Lancquesaing, Jean-Paul Wenzel, Catherine Diverrиs and Karl Biscuit.
2007-2008 works include Massenet´s L´Etoile for the Opéra de Nantes and the Grand Théâtre du Luxembourg staged by Emmanuelle Bastet and productions at the Opéra Bastille staged by Marc Paquien and the Théâtre National de Chaillot by Karl Biscuit.
