Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation
Yevgeny Ganzburg studied lighting design at the Theatre of Youth Art at the Zhdanov Palace of Pioneers (today the St Petersburg Palace of Youth Creativity) under Vasily Bulygin, Yevsei Kutikov and Boris Sinyachesky.
Since the early 1980s he has created the lighting for over two hundred and fifty productions directed by Lev Dodin, Georgy Vasiliev, Galina Volchek, Yuri Butusov, Andrei Moguchy, Roman Kozak, Semyon Spivak, Veniamin Filshtinsky and Dmitry Chernyakov.
Yevgeny Ganzburg has received three nominations for Russia’s Golden Mask theatre prize – in 2009 for the lighting of the opera The Enchanted Wanderer at the Mariinsky Theatre (composer Rodion Shchedrin, stage director Alexei Stepanyuk), in 2012 for the production August: Osage County at the Omsk Drama Theatre (directed by A Buben) and in 2014 for Upon a Summer’s Day at the Kazak Kamal Theatre (directed by Farid Bikchantaev). In 2010 Ganzburg’s lighting design for a production of Masquerade for the Red Torch Theatre received the special prize at the Novosibirsk Transit Festival and Competition.
At the Mariinsky Theatre Yevgeny Ganzburg has created the lighting for the operas Attila (directed by F Shlossman), The Enchanted Wanderer and Il barbiere di Siviglia (directed by Alexei Stepanyuk), Le nozze di Figaro (directed by A Petrov) and Die Zauberflote (directed by Alain Maratrat) among others.
