Alexis Bowles

Lighting Designer

Born in 1980 in Montreal (Canada), at a very young age he travelled throughout the world with his father, an artiste with the Cirque du Soleil. Alexis is of the new generation of designers and works in two fields of set design – lighting design and sound production. As a result of this, he creates a unique blend of colours, texture and rhythm, all subjected to perfect timing for the action onstage. Bowles is constantly seeking out new expressive means and technology in all spheres of his work. Since 2003 he has worked with the Cirque Éloize, the Teatro Sunil and Daniele Finzi Pasca. His lighting designs have have featured in productions of Typo, Rain and Nebbia. He has also worked on designs for ballets including Le Sacre du printemps and L’Homme de bois at the Copenhagen Opera as well as The Sleeping Beauty at the Finnish National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Helsinki. In 2008 he collaborated on a production of Orphée et Eurydice, while in 2010 he designed the lighting for the ballet Le Nombre d’or (LIVE) for the renowned Canadian based modern dance troupe Compagnie Marie Chouinard. Bowles is currently Technical Director and Co-Lighting Designer for the Compagnia Finzi Pasca. His diverse style demonstrates a modern sensitivity and delicateness, influenced by the irrepressible desire for freedom.
