Yuan Jie, an internationally acclaimed pianist, stands as one of the most decorated Chinese pianists in the global music arena. Recognised by China Central Television as one of the Top Ten Chinese Pianists, Yuan Jie holds an Artist Diploma, equivalent to a Doctor of Musical Arts, from the Juilliard School in the USA. He also serves as a resident artist at the International Piano Academy Lake Como in Italy.

Yuan Jie has garnered exceptional accolades in prestigious piano competitions worldwide, securing notable prizes: Hong Kong (2003), Crescendo (2005), Shenzhen (2007), Shanghai (2008), Busoni (2009), Hamamatsu (2009), Berlin (2010), Seattle (2010), Morocco (2011), Dublin (2011), Frankfurt (2012), Van Cliburn (2013) and Casagrande (2013). His achievements include five gold medals, three silver medals, six bronze medals and four audience awards across various competitions.

Yuan Jie is a dynamic presence on major international music stages, having delivered over 2,000 concerts in more than 600 cities and towns across 40 countries. His performances have illuminated esteemed venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, the Library of Congress in Washington, the Salle Pleyel and the Salle Cortot in Paris, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall and the Tokyo Opera City, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Berliner Philharmonie, the Sydney Opera House, Oper Frankfurt, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Victoria Concert Hall in Singapore, the National Auditorium in Lima, the National Arts Centre in Kuala Lumpur, the Seoul Arts Center, the Belarusian State Philharmonic Society in Minsk, the Gran Teatro de La Habana, Beijing’s National Centre for the Performing Arts and the Beijing Concert Hall, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the Shanghai Concert Hall and the Xinghai Concert Hall in Guangzhou.

In 2016, at the age of 30, Yuan Jie was appointed head of the piano departments at both the Harbin Conservatory of Music and the Jilin College of the Arts, where he serves as a professor and doctoral supervisor. He has been invited to judge numerous major competitions both domestically and internationally, including Busoni in Italy, Animato in France, Seattle in the USA, Viseu in Portugal, the German International Pianists Award, Seoul in South Korea, the Asia-Pacific Piano Competition in Macau, the Asian International Piano Competition in Taiwan, the Hong Kong Open, Grotrian in Germany, Kawai in Japan, Melbourne in Australia, the Singapore International, the Harbin Music Competition, China’s Golden Bell Awards, the CCTV Piano and Violin Competition, the CCTV Instrumental Music Competition and the Boya Awards. A recognised authority in the field, Yuan Jie has been appointed as a guest professor by 37 schools and 12 associations, including the Central Conservatory of Music, the Tianjin Conservatory of Music, the Xi’an Conservatory of Music, the Shenzhen Conservatory of Music, the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, the Jilin College of the Arts, the Nanjing University of the Arts, Chongqing Arts School, the Menuhin School in Qingdao, Shenzhen University, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangxi Normal University, Hunan Normal University, Capital Normal University, the Hong Kong Piano Art Association, the Macau Piano Association, the Shanxi Piano Society and the Hainan Piano Society.

Yuan Jie has served as a mentor at international festivals and masterclasses in the USA, Germany, Poland, Italy, Spain and France. Has also performed on television programmes in the United States, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Australia. Domestically, he has visited 21 provinces and regions in China, given lectures at eight universities in Taiwan, and held music talks at comprehensive universities such as Peking University, National Defense University and the Harbin Institute of Technology. Artistic director of five top arts festivals in China: the Boya Arts Festival, the Lanzhou Arts Festival, the Harbin Arts Festival, the Hangzhou Arts Festival and the Sanya Arts Festival.

Additionally, Yuan Jie is recognised as a leading talent in the National High-Level Talent Special Support Program, a Changjiang Scholar, a reviewer for the National Arts Fund, a member of the Heilongjiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, a member of the National Youth Federation, a standing committee member and director of the culture and sports section of the Heilongjiang Provincial Youth Federation, an expert at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Talent Center, a Young Diplomatic Pioneer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and one of the Top Ten Outstanding Youths by the Communist Youth League. He frequently appears in national performances and celebrations, accompanying three generations of national leaders on foreign visits. Has been hailed by the People’s Daily as an “excellent young ambassador of Chinese culture” and praised by The New York Times for his “perfect technique and unmistakable musicality, making him a standout among his generation of pianists”.
