
Timofei Kalmykov was born in 2002 in the city of Volzhsky, Volgograd Region. In 2025 he graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory (class of Tatiana Zagorovskaya). Since 2025 he has been its assistant trainee (under the guidance of the same mentor). Has taken part in masterclasses held by Leonid Zaichik, Alexander Sandler and Miroslav Kultyshev.
Timofei is a laureate of the All-Russian Competition Young Talents of Russia (Moscow, 2018; 1st prize), the International Young Pianists’ Competition Step to Mastery (St Petersburg, 2019; 1st prize and special prize from the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth), the All-Russian Competition Piano Today (St Petersburg, 2021; Grand Prix), the Maria Yudina International Competition for Young Pianists, Piano Duets and Chamber Ensembles (St Petersburg, 2022; Grand Prix in the “Piano Solo” category and 1st prize in the “Chamber Ensembles with Piano” category), the Sviridov International Competition for Youth Performers (St Petersburg, 2023; 1st prize in the “Chamber Ensembles” category), the All-Russian Music Competition for Chamber Ensembles (Ufa, 2023; 3rd prize in the “Piano Trio” category) and the Benditsky All-Russian Open Piano Competition (Saratov, 2023; Grand Prix). A recipient of scholarships from the Philharmonic Society of St Petersburg and the Vladimir Spivakov International Charity Foundation (2018), Kalmykov was also awarded by the Maestro Temirkanov International Foundation for Cultural Initiatives (2018).
Timofei has played internationally, gracing stages in Slovenia, Germany, Serbia, Spain and Switzerland. His performances at prominent venues include the Mariinsky Theatre, the Grand and Small halls of the St Petersburg Philharmonia, the Salikh Saidashev State Grand Concert Hall in Kazan, etc.
He is a soloist at the St Petersburg Music House.
