Bülent Evcil


Flute

Born in 1968, he started his studies in 1980 at Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory. He started his flute education with Mükerrem Berk and completed it with Marc Grauwels at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and Jean-Michel Tanguy at the Heidelberg – Mannheim School of Music. The second prize he won in the Best Performer Competition at the flute seminar organized by Sir James Galway in Dublin in 1992 provided him with the opportunity to become the student of the famous virtuoso.

The artist, who worked as solo flute at the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet between 2000 and 2005, currently continues his career as solo flute at the Istanbul State Symphony as well as Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra.

Evcil has also taken part in international orchestras as a solo flutist and first flutist. These include the “Arturo Toscanini” Philharmonic Orchestra under the conductorship of Lorin Maazel, the Italian International Symphony Orchestra, and the Sao Paulo State Symphony Orchestra, Murcia Symphony and Frankfurt-Oder Symphony Orchestra.

Evcil continues his solo career with invitations to many concerts and international music festivals in more than 20 countries. Among these, the National Flute Association (NFA) in the USA, the Italian FALAUT Festival, the flute festivals in England, France, Slovenia, Serbia, Kosovo and Germany can be counted. He has worked with conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Kurt Masur, Alexander Rahbari, Igor Oistrakh, Emil Tabakov, Ion Marin, Gürer Aykal, Tadeusz Strugała, Claudio Scimone, flutists Benoît Fromanger, Davide Formisano, Marc Grauwels, Raffaele Trevisani, Andrea Oliva, pianists Lior Kretzer, Phillip Moll, accordionist Richard Galliano and others.

Evcil performed the premieres of many concertos in Türkiye including Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto Pastoral and Lowell Liebermann’s Flute Conceto. Fazıl Say, Kamran İnce and Yalçın Tura dedicated their flute concertos to Bülent Evcil. Say’s Concerto was recorded with the Camerata Salzburg Orchestra conducted by Nil Venditti, and İnce’s Concerto was recorded with the Cemal Reşit Rey Symphony Orchestra conducted by Murat Cem Orhan and worldwide published by all digital platforms. He is also a dedicatee of the suite Flute World by Fazıl Say covering the entire flute family. These works have been published all over the world by the international printing company Schott. The Portraits project, in which he also took part upon the invitation of Fazıl Say, was published in all digital markets in 2022 as an album depicting Türkiye’s leading names.

His first album, Tango Time, was published by Kalan Music and his 2 CDs named Middle East Miniatures have been published by A.K.Muzik. In 2015, he recorded his third album with the world-famous accompaniment pianist Phillip Moll and it was released by A.K.Musik under the name Virtuoso Flute.

Evcil, who aims to increase the popularity of the flute in Türkiye and to represent Türkiye in the best way in the world with his art, is the recipient of the Royal Belgian Art Encouragement Medal. He was also awarded the “Most Successful Wind Instrument Artist” of 2010 by Andante music magazine. His international achievements are attributed to two famous flute magazines: he was featured on the cover of The Flute Talk published in the USA and FALAUT published in Italy.
