Conductor

Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra, Daye Lin is also a doctoral supervisor and holds professorships at several institutions: Distinguished Professor of Conducting at the China Conservatory of Music (Beijing), Visiting Professor of Conducting at the Shanghai and Tianjin conservatories of music, Adjunct Professor of Conducting at the School of Music, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen).

Daye Lin studied successively under Professor Xin Xu at the Central Conservatory of Music (Beijing), Professor Guoyong Zhang at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and Professor Christian Ehwald at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, where Lin earned the Konzertexamen, the highest degree in performance.

He served as Resident Conductor of the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra from 2009 and as Principal Conductor of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra from 2010 to 2015, leading it on numerous tours at home and abroad.

In 2012 Lin received 1st prize at the 6th International Conductors’ Competition Sir Georg Solti (Frankfurt) and the Outstanding Contribution Award for Excellent Musician of Guangdong Province from the Guangdong Musicians Association. In 2020 and 2021 he won the He Luting Artistic Achievement Award by the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and he was selected for the 2020 Young Artistic Creative Talent Funding Programme of the China National Arts Fund. In 2023 Daye Lin was named one of Shenzhen’s Top Ten Outstanding Young People.

He returned to teach at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 2015. Appointed Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra in 2016, Lin has led the orchestra on annual international tours, performing in Germany, the USA, Italy, Romania, Slovenia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary and Japan, and appearing at the Ljubljana Festival, the International Festival of Radio Orchestras (RadiRo; Bucharest), the Emilia Romagna Festival, the Merano Music Festival (Italy), the Donizetti Opera Festival (Bergamo, Italy), the Festival delle Nazioni (Castello, Italy) and the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival.

In March 2023 he took on the additional role of Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra, overseeing its establishment and leading its debut concert on New Year’s Day 2024. Later in 2024 Lin led the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra’s chamber ensemble on cultural exchange tours to Great Britain and Japan, and also conducted the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra on a widely acclaimed tour of Great Britain. In April 2025 he served on the jury of the inaugural Classical Violin Olympia International Competition. In October of this year Lin led the Wuxi Symphony Orchestra on a tour to Russia, and in November – the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra on a tour to Japan. Earlier that year, in March, he had conducted the opening concert of the Trans-Siberian Art Festival in Russia.
