Cristian Taraborrelli


Set and Costume Designer

Cristian Taraborrelli is actively involved in experimental theatre, opera and productions of multimedia projects. He has worked with the renowned Italian composers Luis Bacalov, Gualtiero Dazzi, Fabrizio De Rossi Re, Luca Francesconi, Adriano Guarnieri and Fabio Vacchi. Recipient of numerous awards and prizes, among them the Premio Franco Abbiati (2006) and the Prix du Syndicat de la Critique for best set designs for Gertrude (Le Cri, staged by Paris’ Théâtre de l’Odéon, directed by Giorgio Barberio Corsetti, 2009). For his set designs for Gertrude (Le Cri) he was also nominated for the Molière Prize. In 2009 for the opening of the Rossini Opera Festival he created the sets and costumes of a production of Zelmira. In 2011 La Scala staged a production of the opera Turandotdesigned by Cristian Taraborrelli. Taraborrelli has also designed sets and costumes for productions of Maria di Rohan, La Voix humaine, La Cenerentola, Milton, Julie, ou Le pot de fleurs, Tosca, L’Orfeo, Falstaff, Candide, La Bohème, La pietra del paragone and La rondine. He has been involved in productions at theatres throughout France including the Théâtre National de Strasbourg, the Opéra de Rennes, the Théâtre du Châtelet and the Opéra de Strasbourg.
