Giovanna Avanzi


Costume Designer
Born in Milan. Studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. Subsequently completed a specialised course in set and stage costume design at La Scala. Started working as an independent set designer with Haydn´s opera L´isola disabitata at Milan´s Litta Theatre and Paisiello´s La Molinara at La Scala. Has worked for various opera houses in Italy on productions of Gluck´s L´оle de Merlin, Mozart´s The Magic Flute and Massenet´s Don Quixote. Worked as assistant costume designer with director Hugo De Ana on productions of Verdi´s Nabucco and Don Carlos. Was also head of the sewing workshop at Verona´s Arena. Worked as costume designer with director Walter Le Molly. Productions staged in co-operation with him include a contemporary musical and Molière´s comedy George Dandin and the operas Così fan tutte and Il trittico.
