Christian Kolonovits studied piano, composition, conducting and cello at the Vienna College of Music, whilst simultaneously working as a studio musician and arranger. He has collaborated on more than three hundred albums and CDs, seventy gold and platinum awards bearing witness to his success.
As a recognised producer and co-organiser for Austropop, he has produced for many distinguished Austrian artists, among them Wolfgang Ambros, Rainhard Fendrich, Ludwig Hirsch, Maria Bill and STS.
His skills as an arranger, composer and music producer are highly valued by such stars as Plácido Domingo, José Carreras, Luciano Pavarotti, Kiri Te Kanawa, Sarah Brightman, Michael Bolton, Boney M, José Feliciano, Patricia Kaas and the Scorpions.
Since 1990, he has maintained his musical focus on symphonic works. He attained international recognition through successful crossover projects with the Wiener Symphoniker (VSOP), the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Scorpions (Moment of Glory). He has created compositions for theatre (including the Wiener Burgtheater), written film and TV music for Peter Patzak and Xaver Schwarzenberger among others and composed numerous film scores such as the music for Nordwand (directed by Philipp Stölzl).
In 2003, he composed the Linzer Klangwolke. This was followed by musical theatre projects for the Vereinigte Bühnen in Vienna (among others), with the Tiger Lillies (The Little Match Girl, Woyzeck and Die Weberischen). In 2009, the children’s opera Antonia und der Reißteufel was premiered under his musical direction with great success at the Wiener Volksoper.
His new opera El Juez, starring José Carreras in the lead role, was premiered in Bilbao in April 2014.
