Award-winning Projection Designer Elaine J. McCarthy´s Broadway credits include Spamalot, the Tony Award winning musical directed by Mike Nichols, and Wicked, the Stephen Schwartz musical directed by Joe Mantello. Past Broadway credits include After the Fall, directed by Michael Mayer, Tony Award-winning Assassins, directed by Joe Mantello, Man of La Mancha, directed by Jonathan Kent, Tony Award-winning Into the Woods, directed by James Lapine, Judgment at Nuremberg, directed by John Tillinger, and The Green Bird, directed by Julie Taymor.
She designed the Metropolitan Opera´s recent premier of Tchaikovsky´s Mazeppa. the world tour of the Kirov Opera´s War and Peace, also at the Metropolitan Opera; and Dead Man Walking at New York City Opera, directed by Lenny Foglia.
Also to Elaine´s credit are Embedded at The Public Theater and London, The Stendhal Syndrome and An Empty Plate at the Cafe du Grand Boeuf for Primary Stages, Suitcase for Soho Rep and La Jolla Playhouse, Mother Courage for The Classical Theatre of Harlem, Fran´s Bed for The Long Wharf Theatre, The Thing About Men at the Promenade Theatre, Speaking in Tongues for the Roundabout, The It Girl for the York Theatre, Once in a Lifetime for Williamstown Theatre Festival, Cobb for the Stamford Center, Limonade tous les Jours, Hair and The Woman in Black for Bay Street, Tan Dun´s The Gate, for the NHK Symphony in Tokyo, Spirit, the national tour of the native American music and dance event directed by Wayne Cilento, Forgiveness, directed by Chen Shi-Zheng, commissioned by the Asia Society,Songs from the Tall Grass and the new musical Eleanor: An American Love Story at Washington DC´s Ford´s Theatre, Donald Byron´s Tunes and ´Toons at BAM, Tosca for Opera Festival of New Jersey, An Empty Plate... for the Berkshire Theatre Festival, and Peter Sellars´s brilliant The Peony Pavilion for Vienna Opera which has toured virtually around the world.
Elaine has designed several Industrial Shows, most recently: Style 365.com, Karastan Carpets, Sony/Epic Records, Lucent Technologies, and Calvin Klein Cosmetics. She also designed The Costume Institute´s Gianni Versace Retrospective and the 1996 and 1997 CFDA Awards (formerly the Coty Awards) at Lincoln Center´s State Theatre.
