Prize-winner at the Prix de Lausanne International Ballet Competition (Lausanne, 1993) and the National Choreographic Competition (2006). Recipient of a prize from American Ballet Theatre founded by Mae L. Wien, the Prince Prize for Choreography and the Choo San Goh Choreography Award.
Born in Taipei, Taiwan. His performing career began in 1993 with New York City Ballet, performing in Fosse on Broadway, with the Nederlands Dans Theater, Norwegian National Ballet, in the show Complexions and with the dance company Morphoses. In 2001, Edwaard Liang’s choreographic career started with NDT’s choreographic workshop and the New York Choreographic Institute. Edwaard Liang has since choreographed ballets for many companies such as New York City Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Hamburg Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Shanghai Ballet, Washington Ballet, the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre and Morphoses. Edwaard Liang was named one of the “Top 25 to Watch” for 2006 by Dance Magazine.
