Alexander Chelidze


Choreographer

In 1998, Chelidze graduated from the St Petersburg University of the Humanities and Social Sciences. From 2000 to 2003, he taught at the Choreography Department of the St Petersburg University of the Humanities and Social Sciences. Chelidze danced in Sasha Kukin’s dance company from 2008 to 2013. He established his own modern dance company in 2009. Chelidze started teaching modern dance at the ByeByeBallet school in 2012 and became Artistic Director of the ByeByeBallet Ensemble in 2014. He was appointed Senior Teacher of the Choreography Department of the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia in 2014. Chelidze has been Artistic Director of Escabo Contemporary Dance Stage since 2017.

As a dancer, Chelidze took part in Kannon Dance Company’s productions Songs of Komitas (2008, choreography by Natalya Kasparova) and  Ararat. Revelations (2013), in Diary of a Madman (directed by Zhenya Anisimov, choreographed by Vladimir Varnava, 2014), Konstantin Keikhel’s Day Sixteenth (2015), Yuri Smekalov’s Solaris (2017), and Vladimir Varnava’s Le Spectre de la rose (2017).

Choreographed such productions as Breathing Between Walls (2014), Hidden (2015), Moa (2016), After Tango (2016), L'Écume des jours and River (directed by Tatiana Weinstein, 2016 and 2017 respectively), Ties (2017), Waves (2018), Rocks (2018), and No Name (for Igor Kolb, 2018).
