Hello, the season 2010/11 at the Mariinsky Theatre is now closed.
  End of season 2010/11. Mariinsky Theatre. Mariinsky Concert Hall.

Last night, 228th season at the Mariinsky Theatre has come to a close. Two days earlier, the season came to a close at the Mariinsky Concert Hall. Tours of our theater do not have clear season boundaries since our artists intensively perform during the off-season period. The season 2010/11 has been extremely busy for us. We are pleased that many of our projects during this season have raised a great interest and positive reception among our audience. Thanks for your interest and support. It is having our audiences in mind, first and foremost, we plan the schedule of our theater.

  • Mariinsky Theatre: 3 opera and 2 ballet premieres:
    • Opera The Makropulos Affair by Leoš Janáček, staged by Graham Vick;
    • Opera L’elisir d’amore by Gaetano Donizetti, staged by Laurent Pelly;
    • Opera Dead Souls by Rodion Shchedrin, staged by Vasily Barkhatov;
    • Ballet Le Parc, music by Mozart, choreography by Angelin Preljocaj;

During the summer off-season the Ballet, Opera, Chorus and Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre will have an intensive touring schedule. In various parts of the world we will be presenting a wide range of music works. Mariinsky Opera Company and Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra will take part in a series of prestigious European festivals. All operatic and orchestra performances in August and September will be held under the baton of Valery Gergiev.

Finland: Turku. 11 & 12 August. Opera soloists and symphony orchestra of our theater will perform at the Music Festival in Turku, the ancient capital of Finland. On the first evening, August 11th, we will perform, in concert form, Ariadne auf Naxos, an opera by Richard Strauss, premiere of which production was received this season at the Mariinsky Concert Hall. On the second evening, August 12th, we will perform excerpts from Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s ballet Swan Lake and his Third Symphony, as well as the Ninth Symphony by Dmitry Shostakovich.
England: London. 15 August. Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra will perform at the world’s largest music festival — the BBC Proms. In the 42nd promenade concert of the 117th Festival edition we will performed a complete ballet score of Swan Lake by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
France: Annecy. 24 August. Stradivari Ensemble of the Symphony Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre, along with the pianist Denis Matsuev and cellist Gautier Capuçon will perform at the opening night of the Festival of classical music in the French town of Annecy, performing a program of Liszt’s Piano Concerto, Variations on a Rococo Theme by Tchaikovsky, and Holberg Suite by Grieg.
Sweden: Stockholm. 29 & 30 August. At the Ninth Baltic Sea Festival in Stockholm our Opera Company will present two opera performances on stage of the Royal Swedish Opera: The Enchanted Wanderer by Rodion Shchedrin, staged by Alexei Stepanyuk (August 29th) and The Makropulos Affair by Leoš Janáček, staged by Graham Vick (August 30th), one of the opera premieres of this season.
Scotland: Edinburgh. 1, 2 & 3 September. In the final days of the prestigious Edinburgh International Festival in Scottish capital, the Mariinsky Theatre will thrice present Die Frau ohne Schatten, an opera by Richard Strauss, staged by Jonathan Kent. This year, the production has received two awards of the Russian National Theatre Festival and Award Golden Mask: one award as The Best Opera Production, and another award was given to the production set designer Paul Brown as Best Work by a Designer in Musical Theatre.
Netherlands: Rotterdam. 9 & 10 September. At the 16th Rotterdam Philharmonic Gergiev Festival in the Netherlands our Opera Company will present Les Troyens, an opera by Berlioz (September 9th) and Sadko, an opera by Rimsky-Korsakov (September 10th), both in concert form. Interesting to note, that at the second night, it will be Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra who will perform Sadko, which will be new to the musical experience of the Orchestra to play one of the opera masterpieces of Russian classics.
Romania: Bucharest. 11 & 12 September. At the George Enescu Festival in Bucharest the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra will perform a pair of concerts of works by Wagner, Scriabin, Richard Strauss (September 11th), Mussorgsky, Shchedrin, and the Romanian composer himself, whose name the Festival holds (September 12th).
Russia: Krasnodar, Sochi, Samara. 13...18 September. The traditional tour of Russian cities by the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra before the new season starts will span over three Russian cities, with which our theater has close artistic relationship, including the capital of 2014 Winter Olympic Games — Sochi.

Touring schedule of the Mariinsky Ballet Company in August and September is distributed over a wide geographic range and tours are quite long. The program consists of true ballet masterpieces, those works which are considered to be real landmarks of the Mariinsky Ballet.

England: London. 1...13 August. three-week residency of the Mariinsky Ballet at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, continues. The tour marks 50th Anniversary of the first visit by our Ballet Company (then, Kirov Ballet) to the British capital. In the remaining two weeks in London we will present such ballets as: Don Quixote (August 2nd & 3rd), Scotch Symphony, In the Night, and Ballet Imperial (August 4th & 5th), Anna Karenina (August 9th & 10th) and La Bayadère (August 11th, 12th & 13th).
Brazil: São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte. 23 August ... 10 September. On a tour in Brazil, the Mariinsky Ballet will visit the country’s three largest cities: São Paulo (August 23rd ... 28th), Rio de Janeiro (August 31st ... September 5th) and Belo Horizonte (September 8th, 9th & 10th). In each of them, we will several times present Swan Lake, a classic ballet by Marius Petipa and an evening of choreography including performances of Chopiniana (Les Sylphides) by Michel Fokine and Simple Things by Emil Faski.
Singapore: Singapore. 16, 17 & 18 September. On a tour in Singapore we will thrice perform classical ballet Don Quixote (September 16th, 17th & 18th).
Thailand: Bangkok. 20...25 September. Touring program of performances in Bangkok will include classical ballets Le Corsaire (September 20th & 21st) and Don Quixote (September 24th & 25th), as well as a Ballet Gala (September 22nd).

The new season kicks off in our theater in exactly 8 weeks. Complete September and October playbills for the the Mariinsky Theatre and the Mariinsky Concert Hall are already available on our web-site. Tickets for these months are on sale at the Mariinsky Theatre official web-site. You could also purchase new season subscription series. The subscription campaign was launched two months ago, and we experience a high demand for a number of our subscriptions, thus we recommend purchasing your tickets in advance to reserve best seats in the hall for all performances and/or concerts.
