After graduating from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet in 2010 Keenan became the first American to be awarded a diploma by the most renowned Russian ballet school in the world; the dancer worked for two years with the Boston Ballet (USA) and was then invited to join the Mariinsky Ballet. Keenan Kampa has danced at the Mariinsky Theatre since the start of this summer and has already performed the role of Zulma (Giselle) as well as solos in the grand pas in La Bayadère and Raymonda. On 28 October she will be making her debut as the Queen of the Dryads in the ballet Don Quixote (music by Ludwig Minkus and choreography by Alexander Gorsky after motifs from Marius Petipa’s production) and on 29 October audiences will see Keenan Kampa perform as Myrtha in Act II of the ballet Giselle (music by Adolphe Adam and choreography by Jean Coralli, Jules Perrot and Marius Petipa) at the Concert Hall. |
