Alexander Zeldin
| | | Alexander Zeldin began his career in opera directing with his staging of Thomas Adès' opera Powder Her Face, the Russian premiere of which was held at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre under conductor Tim Redmond as part of the inaugural New Horizons Festival of Contemporary Music. Alexander Zeldin has since come back there to stage productions of the operas L'Heure espagnole by Ravel and Gianni Schicchi by Puccini (premieres being conducted by Valery Gergiev), continuing his partnership with the Mariinsky Theatre in a subsequent collaboration on Wagner's Ring des Nibelungen cycle. Other theatre productions he has directed include Calderón de la Barca's El príncipe constante, performed by the company he established in Egypt, London's Arcola and the Oxford Playhouse. For a festival in Naples (Italy) in 2010, he will be directing a premiere of Romeo and Juliet with the National Theatre Studio. |
