Svetlana Aksyonova is a soloist with the Basel Opera (Switzerland). Trained at the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire, the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan and the Musikhochschule in Basel, graduating with distinction.

She currently appears in lead roles in the soprano repertoire such as Liza (The Queen of Spades), Tatiana (Eugene Onegin), Fevronia (The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevronia), Mimì (La Bohème), Cio-Cio San (Madama Butterfly), Marguerite (Faust), the Mermaid (Dvořák’s Rusalka), Nedda (I pagliacci), Desdemona (Otello) and Tosca (Tosca) among others.

The singer’s concert repertoire includes soprano roles in Verdi’s Requiem, Mahler’s Fourth Symphony, Dvořák’s Stabat Mater, Berlioz’ Messe solennelle, Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle, Haydn’s Stabat Mater, Britten’s War Requiem and the song cycles Schéhérazade by Ravel and Seven Early Songs by Berg.

In 2010 Svetlana Aksyonova received the “Singer of the Year” prize in the category “New Names” for her performance of the role of Cio-Cio-San in Basel. In that role she has appeared at renowned opera houses including the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo and the Degollado Opera in Mexico.

Since 2008 Svetlana has been a lead soloist of the Basel Opera where she has performed the roles of Rusalka (Dvořák’s Rusalka), Mimì, Liza, Amelia (Un ballo in maschera), Tosca, the Countess (Le nozze di Figaro), Sister Blanche (Dialogues des carmélites), Micaëla (Carmen), Marguerite, Desdemona and the soprano role in the first stage version of Britten’s War Requiem.

The singer has performed at the Deutsche Oper as Mimì, at the Oper Dortmund as Suor Angelica, at the Saarbrucken Theater and the Teatro Regio in Parma as Desdemona.

One of Svetlana’s greatest achievements has been performing the role of Fevronia in Dmitry Chernyakov’s production of The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevronia at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam in 2012 and at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona in 2014. This production has received numerous awards and the DVD recorded in Amsterdam received an International Classical Music Award in 2015.

In 2015 Svetlana has appeared to great acclaim as Rusalka in Dvořák’s eponymous opera at the Opéra Bastille in Paris and as Tatiana (Eugene Onegin) at the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo in Brazil and in Verdi’s Requiem at Victoria Hall in Geneva.

Has taken part in international festivals including the Giuseppe Verdi Opera Festival in Parma, the Umberto Giordano Festival in Baveno, the Luoghi immaginari (Piemonte), the Festival ultural de Mayo (Guadalajara), Les Museiques (Basel) and the Spring Festival in Budapest with the Russian National Orchestra under Mikhail Pletnev.

Appears at famous venues throughout Europe and records for Swiss radio.

At the Mariinsky Theatre the singer first appeared at the Stars of the White Nights festival in 2011, performing the role of Liza under the baton of Valery Gergiev.
