Elena Yakimenko


Set and Costume Designer

Born in Donetsk, Elena Yakimenko studied and works in St Petersburg. She graduated from the Repin Institute of Art, Sculpture and Architecture and the St Petersburg Academy of Theatre Art. Works as a graphic designer, book illustrator and stage designer. At the Mikhailovsky Theatre Elena Yakimenko arranged the children’s subscription series A Journey Backstage and a production of Sergei Prokofiev’s opera The Giant (directed by Arkady Gevondov, 2010), and at the Zazerkalye musical theatre she has worked on productions of Kirmo Lintinen’s opera Nu i nu! (directed by Natalia Garina, 2008), Maurice Ravel’s L’Heure espagnole and Douglas Pashley’s musical SPIN (directed by Andrei Petrov, 2008). Elena Yakimenko’s first work at the Mariinsky Theatre was the creation of the costumes and sets for the children’s production A True Story about Cinderella (composed by Vladimir Tarnopolsky and directed by Arkady Gevondov).
