On tour to Spain and Slovenia
|
| |
Performances at summer festivals
in San Sebastian
and Ljubljana are the major highlights of the touring of our theater in August.
Symphony Orchestra,
Chorus and opera soloists
of the Mariinsky Theatre
led by Valery Gergiev will present a wide spectrum
of musical works in the course of six nights (three at each festival).
International Classical Music Festival in San Sebastian
is one of the oldest
and most prestigious in Spain
and runs
under the artistic credo eclecticism,
openness
and diversity. In accordance with this credo, our theater
will present a variety of musical works
by Wagner, Sibelius, Stravinsky, Shchedrin,
and also Berliozs
dramatic symphony Roméo et Juliette,
which will be performed
in collaboration
with the Spanish choral ensemble Orfeón Donostiarra.
Summer Festival in Ljubljana
is the principal cultural forum in Slovenia, annually bringing
a program of varied art forms
and genres. Previous performances
by the Mariinsky Theatre
in Ljubljana have always been
remarkable events in the festival segment
of classical music.
One of a few important festival highlights this year
must be the performance of Richard Strauss
opera The Woman without a Shadow, the production of our theater
that received its premiere last season.

Forthcoming releases on Mariinsky Label
|
| |
This autumn sees new CD releases on the Mariinsky Label, our own recording label.
In September we are releasing the recording of Wagners last opera
Parsifal. This recording was made in June 2009
at the Stars of the White Nights Festival. Along
with the Chorus and Symphony Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre under Valery Gergiev
this recording is starring a rostrum of world-class
opera soloists: Violeta Urmana, Gary Lehman, René Pape, Nikolai Putilin,
Evgeny Nikitin, Alexei Tanovitski et al.
In October we are to release
a recording
of Second and Eleventh Symphonies by Shostakovich. This release
will continue
the long-term ongoing project
of our theatre aimed to produce
a recording of complete symphonies
by one of the greatest composers of the 20th century.
These Symphonies were recorded
in February 2009
and February 2010 featuring Chorus
and Symphony Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre under Valery Gergiev.
Previously on Mariinsky Label
we released a recording of First and Fifteenth Symphonies by Shostakovich.
You can pre-order both releases
through the Mariinsky Label web-site
