Chopin @ White Nights
|
| |
This year the music world celebrates
the 200-th anniversary
of the birth
of Frederick Chopin. Our theater
has joined the festivities by inviting a number of distinguished
artists to the Stars of the White Nights Festival: pianists,
instrumentalists, and also the Ballet company of the Polish National Theatre.
Piano recitals by Yundi
and Alexei Volodin explore
a range of works
exclusively by Chopin. David Geringas
and Ensemble of Soloists
from the Berlin Philharmonic both offer
interesting programs, which combine works of Chopin
and his contemporaries: Chopin and Schumann, Chopin and Schubert. A
ballet play Chopin
of the Polish National Theatre
tells the story
of the composers life, which
resembled that of the hero
of his musical works, his sweet
and bitter love,
his triumphant concerts, the acceptance
of his musical genius and his interminable
loneliness as well as those who were connected with his destiny.
So, this will be
the week of Chopin at the Stars of the White Nights Festival.

Spartacus — a ballet premiere of the Festival
|
| |
Ballet Spartacus returns back
to the repertoire
of the Mariinsky Theatre. This ballet
was first seen in our theater (then Kirov Theatre) at the end of 1956. Its
music was written
by Aram Khachaturian
and choreography
by Leonid Yakobson. This production
was not just a simple ballet event,
but rather a real
artistic breakthrough. In fact,
the performance was shaking!
It combined a genuine passion,
the concentration
of artistic impressions,
as well as almost impossible
at that time erotic theme.
The music, bright and distinctive, is full of rich colours that accurately convey
the ideas of both dramatic and subtle lyrical moments. Aram Khachaturian has created
quite an unusual musical score, astonished
by his gentle attention
to each nuance that highlights
every move
of the ballet. Spartacus
became an absolute artistic success
of our theater,
it had consistently remained
one of the most popular
and beloved ballet shows and gave many opportunities for several
generations of great dancers to shine,
and now once again receives
its long anticipated revival
in the repertoire of our theater.
