Pierre Lamoureux works in various different fields: he studied painting with Gérard Du Marneau, dance under Jean-Jacques Thorais (a soloist at the Opéra de Paris, the art of pantomime under Gérard le Breton (a professor at the École Internationale de Mimodrame de Paris Marcel Marceau) and the dance of “whirling dervishes” from masters of the Sufi art in Iran.
As an actor he trained under the director Ariane Mnouchkine at the Théâtre du Soleil, and he has also worked with numerous other theatre companies.
Pierre Lamoureux has staged Jean-Claude Carrière’s play The Conference of the Birds, based on a 9th century Persian epos, where he performs all thirty-two roles. This production is a synthesis of pantomime, dramatic theatre and ballet. The production was extremely well received at the Avignon Festival in 2002, where it remained in the repertoire for three years. The production has been performed in Russia and it is often staged in France, Switzerland and Iran.
Pierre Lamoureux has created picturesque images using a theme from this play which have been exhibited in Avignon and in Paris (2006).
In 2007 Pierre Lamoureux staged a production of Olympe to texts by Cocteau at the Théâtre Olympe in Montauban. This production was dedicated to Jean Babilé – the “French Nijinsky”.
In 2009, together with Jean-Claude Carrière, Pierre Lamoureux began work on a new project for the publication of a book of illustrations to the text of The Conference of the Birds.
As a professor of dance and theatre (at the Conservatoire in the fourth arrondissement in Paris), he has founded artistic ateliers and theatre groups working in France and other countries.
