One of the brightest and most original young pianists from the St Petersburg piano school, Evgeny Izotov began his musical studies at an early age, starting at the age of six at the Russian Central Music School and later attending the St Petersburg State Conservatoire and the École Normale de Musique in Paris where he studied under Nina Seregina and Marian Rybicki.
Appearing regularly in the leading concert halls of St Petersburg, he has also performed at Wigmore Hall, Hong Kong City Hall, the Festspielhaus in Baden-Baden, Essen’s Philharmonie, the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord and in South Korea, Japan and South Africa. He regularly appears in music festivals across Europe including the Harrogate, Busoni, Algarve and Radio France Festivals. He has performed with the Hermitage Theatre and St Petersburg Academic Cappella Orchestras, the Petrozavodsk Philharmonic, the Curitiba Festival Orchestra (Brazil) and the Pusan Philharmonic Orchestra (South Korea) and collaborated with conductors Alexander Chernushenko, Alexander Anissimov, Carlo Palecci, Jin Heyoun Back and Emil Simon.
A member of the St Petersburg Chopin Society since 2005, Izotov is regularly invited to perform at Chopin Festivals including Days of Polish Culture in Karelia (2005 and 2008). In March 2010 during the 200th birthday celebrations in honour of Chopin, Izotov performed the Concerto in E Minor at St Petersburg’s Constantine Palace.
As part of Piter’s Trio with violinist Vladislav Pesin and cellist Taras Trepel, Izotov has won numerous prizes at international chamber music festivals including 1st prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Kuhmo, Finland. He has been a member of the St Petersburg Virtiosen for five years and often collaborates with violinist Valeriy Sokolov and the Atrium String Quartet.
Having attended master classes with Dmitry Bashkirov, William Grant Naboré, Jan Marisse Huizing and Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Izotov now leads annual master classes himself at the Festival International de Musica da UNICAMP in Brazil. He also holds teaching positions as guest Professor of Piano at Silla University in South Korea and Assistant Professor of Chamber Music at the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire.
Izotov has won many awards including 1st prize at the International Piano Academy Lake Como, the Sernancelhe Competition and the Mée-sur-Seine International Competition. He also won 1st prize and a special award at the IV Takasaki International Art and Music Competition for High School Students during a tour of Japan in 1996 and 2nd prize at the George Enescu International Competition.
Izotov’s concerts have been broadcast on television channels including Mezzo and MBC in South Korea and on Radio France, BBC Radio and Radio Russia-Petersburg.
