Born in the Saratov Region. Graduated from the Krasnoyarsk Institute of Arts in 1983 (singing class of Professor Ioffel).
Soloist with the Syktyvkar Musical Theatre (Komi Republic) from 1983-1985.
Soloist with the Musa Dzhalil Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet (Kazan) from 1985-1992.
Mariinsky Theatre soloist since 1992.

Has toured with the Mariinsky Opera Company and independently to Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK, Japan, the USA, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Korea, Israel and Luxemburg.
Has performed at renowned opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera, The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, La Scala, the Chicago Lyric Opera and the Academy Santa Cecilia and has taken part in the Salzburg Festival.
Mariinsky Theatre audio and video recordings include The Queen of Spades, Sadko, Iolanta, La forza del destino, Mazepa, Prince Igor and Boris Godunov (Philips Classics, NHK).

Changes to the playbill

Information for audiences:

The concert featuring Nikolaj Znaider as listed on the playbill for 4 October will now take place on 1 October.

On 24 October, instead of the planned performance of the opera Duke Bluebeard’s Castle and an evening of piano music, at 15.00, the Mariinsky Theatre will now be staging a premiere of the opera Věc Makropulos (The Makropoulos Affair).

On 28 October
, the opera Die Frau ohne Schatten at the Mariinsky Theatre will now commence at 18.00 and not at 19.00 as previously announced.

On 29 October at the Mariinsky Theatre, instead of a recital there will be a concert performance of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera The Tsar’s Bride featuring Olga Borodina as Lyubasha.
