The inaugural Orchestral Academy of the Mariinsky Stradivarius Ensemble is a unique educational and outreach initiative designed to preserve, strengthen and further develop the traditions of orchestral performance in Russia and around the world.
Running in St Petersburg from September 2026 to February 2027, the Academy will bring together musicians from seven regional orchestras across Russia, representing Ufa, Voronezh, Kirov, Petrozavodsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Stavropol and Kazan.
The Academy’s Artistic Director and mentor is Lorenz Nasturica-Herschcowici, Honoured Artist of the Republic of Bashkortostan, leader of the Mariinsky Stradivarius Ensemble, and an internationally renowned violinist and conductor. His exceptional experience combines a profound understanding of orchestral performance with distinctive and unconventional approaches to teaching.
The project is supported by the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives. The Mariinsky Theatre is a partner of the project.
