Antonina Kazarina (1930–2019) was a violinist, People’s Artist of the RSFSR, professor of the St Petersburg Conservatory. Representative of St Petersburg violin school originating from the legendary Leopold Auer, for many years she worked at the Kirov (Mariinsky) Orchestra, where she entered being still a student of the Conservatory. During her years at the Kirov Orchestra she moved up to the concertmaster position, becoming the first woman to obtain it. With highest mastery she performed violin solos in Tchaikovsky’s ballets Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty as well as in other works.

From 1985 she taught at the Leningrad (St Petersburg) Conservatory and at the Secondary Special Music School of the Conservatory. Her class produced many remarkable musicians who continued their careers in major orchestras in Russia and abroad. Kazarina’s students now play at the Mariinsky Orchestra as well.
