Martin Sander, a prize-winner at prestigious international competitions and an acclaimed specialist in the German organ repertoire, is making his debut at the festival. His programme features works by J. S. Bach and C. P. E. Bach as well as “tributes” to the great predecessors made by the 19th century composers, Schumann and Liszt, in a then very popular genre “on BACH theme”. Adding to this dialogue of centuries will be organ transcriptions of overtures by Mozart, Mendelssohn and Wagner, thus presenting familiar music in new timbres and colours.
