About the performers

The Fusion Point Trio was founded in 2009 by the composer Kirill Sokirko. The project was envisioned as a chamber ensemble that would continue the traditions of trio performance as well as producing original music of their own. The initial ensemble was highly diverse on the jazz scene – piano, bass guitar and percussion. In  2011, following a series of concerts at clubs in St Petersburg, the musicians began to appear at international festivals in Russia, Ukraine and Poland. They also participate in programmes as a guest ensemble with the Chamber Chorus of Smolny Cathedral, and in early 2012 they released their first album – Morning Rain, which received great acclaim from the international press. That same year they performed their first full solo concert which was recorded in DVD format.

In  2013 the Fusion Point Trio began to appear as guest musicians and released their second disc Mind and Illusion. The ensemble was joined by Roman Zastavny (double bass), and the trio began its collaboration with the Mariinsky Theatre. At the Chamber Halls of the Mariinsky II they have presented new programmes and given subscription performances to great acclaim.

2017 saw the release of the album suite Circles of Time – the third studio release by the ensemble. Together with their studio work, the musicians are actively experimantal in the synthesis of arts. They had, for example, the idea of a special programme, in which the music material used verse by poets of the 20th century – a successful combination of poetry and music.

From 2017 to 2019 the musicians have significantly increased their repertoire – for the first time at their concerts there were included original works in major form as well as arrangements of works by classical composers. The trio on several occasions has has involved Mariinsky Theatre soloists in its programmes. During this period their first two albums were re-released – the sound was remagistered taking current trends into account, and in 2020 the musicians plan to release a collection of their greatest compositions – The Best. The release will coincide with the tenth anniversary of the formation of the Fusion Point Trio.

The musicians of the Fusion Point Trio participate in programmes of modern music not just on the jazz stage but also in concert halls in St Petersburg, among them the Great Hall of the Philharmonic, the Small Hall of the Conservatory, the Concert and Exhibition Hall of Smolny Cathedral and the Mariinsky Theatre.
