About the Concert

Easter concert featuring music of love and faithfulness. The story of the last royal family of the House of Romanov told through the letters written in their last years by Nicholas II and Alexandra Feodorovna and through poems and recollections of contemporaries. The destiny of the royal passion-bearers viewed as a path to becoming saints in Russian history. It is a path of faith, hope and love. Year 2018 marks 100 years since the passing of the royal family, but also 100 years since they have become the saint heavenly defenders of our Motherland. Year 2018 also marks 150 years since the birth of the last Russian emperor. Music to be performed is the music which was a part of that family’s life, the music of the epoch, the music of changes, the spiritual music of the 20th century and music written by modern composers. The best performer of the part of the last Russian emperor will read the letters of the royal family members, which convey love and their thoughts about Russia. Previously unseen photographs, rare recollections of contemporaries, letters from 1917–18 will show the history of Nicholas II’s family to the audience from the point of view of a man of family and faith, not just a politician and a military leader. The audience will access rare photographs, letter excerpts, personal items of the family, icons painted in recent years and works of a modern muralist, created especially for the concert.
