About the performers

Arseny Gusev was born in St Petersburg in 1998 and began to study music at the age of five. In 2014 he entered the Middle Special School of Music of the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire, trained at the Tanglewood Music Center.

Frequently performs in Russia and abroad. Has collaborated with conductors including Arkady Steinlucht, Dmitry Vasiliev, Mikhail Golikov and Mikhail Mosenkov. Has taken part in master-classes conducted by Garrick Ohlsson, Jerome Rose, Alexander Mndoyants and Nina Lelchuk.

Prize-winner at the International Valery Gavrilin Youth Competition I Am a Composerin St Petersburg, the international youth competition Performer-Composerin St Petersburg and the All-Russian Petrov Open Composers' Competition in St Petersburg. In 2016 he became a grant-recipient of the International Keyboard Institute & Festival (New York) and the St&nbp;Petersburg City Government, a soloist of the St Petersburg House of Music and a member of the Russian Authors' Society.

Also works as a composer. His works include a concerto for two pianos (2009), a scherzo for two violins and cello (2009), a string quartet (2011), Teryoshechka (children's opera and orchestral suite, 2011–2012), two piano trios (2013, 2015), the orchestral rhapsody Russia. Presentiment of St Petersburg (2013), two sonatas for piano (2014, 2015), the ballet The Swineherd and the eponymous tale for narrator and orchestra (2015, Prize of the All-Russian Theatre Society) and a sonata for violin and piano (2016).
