I Musici

“There are cigars and there are Cuban Cohíbas, there are red wines and there are Château Lafite Rothschilds. There are performances of The Four Seasons and there is I Musici’s Four Seasons.”
The Palm Beach Post

“From the first passionate entrance, pulses raced. The accents, the delicate changes of dynamics and the variations of mood are always organic and never casual, a scintillating fugue in Handel’s Concerto Grosso Op. 6 No 1. I Musici have made the 18th century repertoire shine for almost sixty years, much longer than any other chamber orchestra.”
Der Tagesspiegel

The story of I Musici is extraordinary and unique. Founded in 1951, it is the oldest active chamber ensemble, and all over the world they have opened up the path to the fountain of knowledge of 18th century Italian music, to Vivaldi and The Four Seasons, recording Vivaldi’s masterpiece for the first time ever and selling the astonishing number of more than twenty-five million copies in various editions, making it one of the most famous pieces in the music repertoire. They worked on the first classical music film in the 1970’s and recorded the first classical music CD for Philips, bringing the name of Rome, Italy and Italian music to the rest of the world with their repertoire ranging from the 18th century to the contemporary, also being advocates of important works by such composers as Nino Rota, Ennio Porrino, Valentino Bucchi, Luis Bacalov, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Ennio Morricone.
I Musici are currently regular guests at the most prestigious international festivals and they have an intense concert schedule at famed theatres and concert halls worldwide.
I Musici have recorded exclusively for Philips for many years. Their recordings, a veritable goldmine of compositions from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, have repeatedly been awarded prizes by special juries; these have included the Grand Prix de l’Académie Charles Cros, the Grand Prix International du Disque, the Edison Award, the Deutsche Schallplattenpreis and the Grand Prix des Discophiles. Their recording of The Four Seasons by Vivaldi won a Platinum Disc with inset diamond. Recently they have recorded for Sony Classics and Fonè and initiated a significant collaboration with Sony-Epic Japan, with which they recorded their new seventh version of The Four Seasons.
During the concert season of 2011-2012, I Musici celebrated the 60th anniversary of their foundation and their debut. To give emphasis to this important event they embarked on a world tour that in two years has led them to meet their admiring public to the four corners of the Earth. From Italy, where on 30 March 2012 they celebrated the anniversary of their first concert, to Australia, from New Zealand to Japan, from Germany to China, from South Korea to the United States of America, from Spain to Russia and many other places and renowned concert halls have seen I
Musici performing for the delight of their fans. www.imusicidiroma.com
