The Concert Chorus of Boys and Young Men of the Sverdlovsk Male Choral College is an outstanding artistic ensemble. The sound of the chorus is remarkable for its magnificent structure and rich timbre palette.
The chorus was founded in 1991 on the initiative of Sergei Pimenov, a graduate of the choral conducting faculty of the Urals State Conservatoire. Today, the chorus is a member of the International Federation of Choral Music, the Europa Cantate choral federation, the American Choral Directors’ Association and the Association of Children’s and Youth Choirs of the Ural-Siberian Region of Russia.
In 1994 the ensemble performed at the XXVI World Choral Congress in the Vatican, making it the first Russian chorus to be invited to the congress. The Concert Chorus of Boys and Young Men of the Sverdlovsk Male Choral College has undertaken successful tours to towns and cities in the USA, Great Britain, Spain, Germany, France, The Netherlands and Switzerland as well as to the finest venues in Russia.
The chorus has been a prize-winner at several prestigious international competitions, among them the International Competition in Tampere, (1^st prize and Golden Diploma), the International Choral Competition in Riva del Garda (1^st prize and Special Prize), the International Festival and Competition in Székesfehérvár (1^st prize and Audience Award) and the International Choral Festival in Arnhem (2^nd prize). The ensemble has also appeared at the Festival of Russian Art in Cannes (France) and has been a winner of The Maltese Lyre international festival’s competition on several occasions.
The chorus has twice received the Prize of the Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region for the programmes A Monograph Concert of Pavel Chesnokov and The Liturgy of St John Chrysostom through the Eyes of Russian Composers. The chorus’ major concert programmes include Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and Jenkins’ The Armed Man (A Mass for Peace).
